What the Year 2 preset does
Year 2 keeps the 18 pt type of Year 1 but moves the difficulty up to Medium, so the multipliers and the number ranges expand while the page stays easy to read. Twenty questions, one A4 side, answer key on page 2.
The preset opens on number bonds to 20. That is a deliberate step up from bonds to 10: the same part-whole idea, but with totals that cross the ten boundary and force a child to bridge through it.
The three sheets worth printing in Year 2
Bonds to 20 first, because they underpin every mental strategy that follows. Column addition next, with carrying set to No, so the child practises lining up hundreds, tens and ones without meeting an exchange. Then the 2, 5 and 10 tables, which have the strongest visual patterns and are the easiest to check at home.
Once all three are comfortable, tick 2, 5 and 10 together and print a mixed sheet. That is the first genuinely mixed tables sheet most children meet, and it is worth doing slowly rather than in a hurry.
Marking without a calculator
Page 2 repeats the same twenty questions in the same order with the answers filled in. For bonds and tables, marking a class set takes a couple of minutes and the pattern of errors is easy to read: a run of wrong answers in one table means the table needs teaching, while scattered errors usually mean the child is rushing.
The answers are printed in a deep red bold so they survive a mono photocopier. Nothing on the question page depends on colour, so a grey printout is just as usable.
Moving from Year 2 into Year 3
The step into Year 3 is mostly about size and layout rather than new content: the sheet drops to 16 pt, moves to 24 questions and the column work becomes three-digit. If a child is comfortable with the Year 2 bonds and tables sheets, the Year 3 column sheet is the natural next print, and the answer page stays the same shape.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What maths should a Year 2 child practise at home?
Number bonds to 20, adding and subtracting within 100 and the 2, 5 and 10 times tables are the usual core. The ready-made PDFs on this page cover all three.
Why is carrying switched off for Year 2 addition?
So the child practises setting out and place value without also handling an exchange. Turn carrying on when the layout is secure — it is one dropdown away.
How long should a Year 2 sheet take?
Ten to fifteen minutes for twenty questions is typical. If it takes much longer, drop to the Easy difficulty rather than reducing the question count.
Can I print a 24-question sheet instead?
Yes. Twenty-four still fits on one A4 page and uses a four-by-six grid. The type size stays at 18 pt for Year 2.
Are the sheets suitable for a mixed-ability class?
The difficulty setting covers the spread: Easy keeps multipliers to 1–5, Medium to 2–10, Hard to 2–12. Two printouts at different settings cover most of a Year 2 class.
Do the sheets include subtraction?
Column subtraction is available as a topic. For Year 2 use it with Borrowing set to No to keep the focus on layout and place value.
